FAMILY & FRIENDS OF MANS MCLEOD KEEP HOPE ALIVE WITH MANS’ JAM

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 8, 2016 – Music lovers – especially Eagles lovers – are in for a treat on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 3 – 7 p.m., when On the Border – the ultimate Eagles tribute band – and Chuck Johnson & Charlyhorse team up for the second annual Mans’ Jam National Brain Tumor Society Fundraiser at Amos’ Southend, 1423 S. Tryon St., Charlotte. This will be the last Mans’ Jam hosted at Amos’ Southend, which will be closing March 4, 2017, after nearly 30 years.

Mans’ Jam is named after the late Charlottean and Wells Fargo banker William “Mans” McLeod Jr. who died of a brain tumor in December 2012 at age 54. He was the son of Dr. Leslie McLeod and Dr. Jonnie McLeod – both prominent physicians known for their accomplishments, involvement in the Charlotte community, and their participation in clinical trials throughout their lives.

“Mans never lost hope and signed up for every clinical trial his doctors offered during the 18 months he was treated for brain cancer, not for himself, but for the hope it might give others and for the example it would set for our daughter Anna and son Will,” said his widow Carole McLeod, who added that friends and family, who call themselves the Mans’ Clan, have participated in numerous fundraisers for National Brain Tumor Society to help fund brain tumor research.

“Mans also loved all types of music and would be humbled and honored to hear we’re hosting Mans’ Jam with proceeds benefitting the National Brain Tumor Society. Mans listened to thousands of songs his friends downloaded on an iPod for him to use during radiation and chemotherapy – and I know he would love the bands playing for us at Mans’ Jam,” she said. Mans’ Jam will feature the following bands:

On The Border – The Ultimate Eagles Tribute Band from Charlotte, has been touted as the most authentic sounding Eagles Tribute band in the country, and in 2015, were crowned “The Greatest Eagles Tribute Band in the World,” by Katie Daryl, host and producer of “The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands” program on ASX TV. On The Border performs at major festivals, music venues, casinos and theaters all over the U.S., covering every hit from “Desperado” to “Lyin’ Eyes” to “Life in the Fast Lane.” The talented lineup of musicians includes: Tracy Maples, Tim Giovanniello, Bill Morgan, Andy Young, Scott Sobota and Bob Orazi. http://ultimateeaglestribute.com/

Chuck Johnson & Charlyhorse – Winners of the 2012 Charlotte Music Awards Singer/Songwriter of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year, Chuck Johnson & Charlyhorse is a group of four talented and seasoned North Carolina musicians – including Chuck Johnson, Tom Kuhn, Dale Meyer and Jamie Brock – who weave tales of small southern towns and hell-fire preachers, shuttered cotton mills, and down-home philosophers into their Americana roots music. The band’s performances are influenced by rock, country, bluegrass, R&B and soul and salted with wry humor and camaraderie that invites the audience into the act. http://thecharlyhorse.com/

The Impact According to the NBTS, nearly 700,000 people in the United States are living with a brain tumor, and 77,000 more people will be diagnosed this year – including an estimated 2,690 in North Carolina and 1,080 in South Carolina. Brain tumors are the No. 1 cancer killer of kids, according to NBTS, and only four drugs and one medical device are approved to treat malignant brain tumors.

“The National Brain Tumor Society exists to raise funds to support the cost of brain tumor research and to increase awareness of this terrible disease – and Mans Jam is one way we do that,” said Katie-Rose Tuttle, NBTS regional director of development, capital and Southeast. “Brain tumors are often deadly, impact quality of life and change everything for patients and their loved ones. Money raised at this wonderful event honoring the life and spirit of Mans McLeod will help fund the NBTS’s mission to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for brain tumors.”

A $25 minimum suggested donation is requested for Mans’ Jam tickets, which will be sold online or at the door, and additional donations are encouraged. For more information, go to https://nbtsevents.braintumor.org/charlotte/events/mans-jam/e90206.
